An Irish Prison Guard, struggling with a shattered marriage and heavy
drinking, must set his personal troubles aside to take on a murderous
inmate and nemesis hellbent on revenge, mayhem and murder.
Very pleased to have been commissioned by Cavendish Fante Picture Company to adapt the novel, From The Horses Mouth: A Jailer's Tale by Bill Bradshaw.

Off to London tomorrow to spend two or three
days with Tiger Aspect and their writing team helping out on a new drama
written by a good friend. Not my project, so can't say too much but
looking forward to learning more about their process and seeing it come
together. Every day's a school day. By the way, it's going to be a
cracking show so watch this space.

Was up in Aberfeldy last night for the Heartland Film Society's screening of Incendies (http://imdb.to/ZcjL3B), which was preceeded by Arthur Cant (http://imdb.to/YqzTmb). While there I learned about the soon to be reopened Birks Cinema following a £1.8m refurb. Good luck to everyone involved and look out for Heartland's 2013 Palme Dewar Short Film Comp.

This is Edinburgh band, TIDINGS. I only discovered them a couple of weeks ago but love their sound - a very cinematic post-metal. Have a listen here - http://bit.ly/XSh3k9

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Zina Semenova, a Russian filmmaker and
musician who now lives in Virginia and runs the Film Career blog, 'an educational portal for filmmakers, creatives and independent thinkers', who
asked if I would write a piece aimed at those just starting out, on how I go
about writing short scripts. There's no rules and we all do it
slightly differently, but if you click on the logo you can see the published article and links to other resources on Zina's site.

At 9pm (5pm there) tonight, Plagium will be part of the evening schedule at the Soul4Reel Film Festival in Maryland. At the same time, with any luck, Scotland will be stuffing France in their final 6 Nations game in Paris. Think I'll pour a glass of something.

Further to the previous post, delighted to hear that Kate Steel and Victoria Blunt have been cast as sisters Shona and Alison. Click on their photos to see their Spotlight profiles.

As Shona struggles to cope
with John, her unfaithful, violent and possessive husband, her main concern is
the health and wellbeing of their 8 year old son, Sam, who she’s determined to
shield from his father’s influence. When
John taunts her about his latest extra marital affair, she finds the
courage to ask yet again to be freed from the relationship, thereby setting in
motion a series of events that will change the family forever.
'Needs', directed by Amine Yahia Cherif, begins filming in London on 7th April.

KAJAKI the movie follows a group of soldiers during one day of their six month tour of Afghanistan.
Based
on a true story, Kajaki is a modern British War Film depicting the
reality of life as British soldiers on tour in Afghanistan. Like the
best British war films of a by-gone era, Kajaki is a story of
camaraderie, the British wit under fire, and the heroism of a group of
young soldiers as they fight for their survival.
A day in which the heroism of their leader, Corporal Mark Wright, shone through with tragic consequences. Out of the tragedy came extraordinary tales of bravery and selflessness, not only of Corporal Wright but also his comrades, who risked their own lives to help fellow Paratroopers.
Mark was my cousin.

Arthur
Cant is to be shown by the Heartland Film Society prior to the feature,
Incendies, on Thursday 4th April at 7.30pm at the Locus Centre in
Aberfeldy. It's an interesting pairing; "Incendies tells the powerful
and moving tale of two young adults' voyage to the core of deep-rooted
hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love." Arthur Cant's about a man
who has difficulty using public toilets.
